GORDON ARTHUR PROM
March 10, 1924 ~ March 9, 2013

"He will be remembered for his tenacious spirit
and dry sense of humor."

Gordon Arthur Prom, 88, died peacefully at home in Vancouver, Washington, March 9, 2013. He was born March 10, 1924, in Harvey, North Dakota, the son of John and Edith (Brown) Prom. He graduated from Velva State Agricultural High School in 1943.
Gordon married Mary Ann Klein of Balta, North Dakota in 1946 and later moved to Vancouver, Washington where they raised two children. Gordon and Mary Ann were married 53 years until her death in 1999.

As his occupation, Gordon owned what he liked to call a "coin route," through which he bought and serviced all types of coin-operated machines from juke boxes and pinball games, to candy and cigarette vending machines. He valued independence and the opportunity to work with his hands to earn his livelihood for some 45 years.

Gordon loved music, animals, and classic Western movies.

From 1965 until 1988, he owned a 13-acre farm in Clark County where he enjoyed tilling the earth with his Massey Ferguson tractor, raising cattle, and growing vegetables.

Until the age of 85, he walked three miles every day or rode his mountain bike around the neighborhood.

Gordon is survived by one son, Lance Von Prum of Vancouver, Washington; a daughter and son-in-law, Ranae and Rusty LaFerney of Port Angeles, Washington; sister, Marcella Rubbelke of Vancouver, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene; and three sisters, Stella, Marlene and Genevieve.

Funeral services were held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, WA 98684, on Saturday, March 16, 2013.
