Orville William was born February 20, 1915 in Apple River, Illinois and was the son of Howard Sampson and Anna Louise (Stadel) Bastian. He married Alice Virginia Beadle on August 8, 1943 in Galena and three children were born to this union: John "Jack" William Bastian, Virginia Ann "V-Ann" (Bastian) Howard, and Robert "Bob" Lee Bastian. He was an ammunition inspector and demolition foreman for 35 years at the Savanna Army Depot, retiring July 1, 1976. Orville died March 12, 1989 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
