Roxie was born on Monday, May 26th, 1924 in Nancy, Kentucky, daughter of the Late William Walker and Julia Ann Burkett Bland.
Roxie was survived by three sons, Gary (and Sarah) Lyons, Bobby (and Dianna) Lyons, and Darrell (and Debby) Lyons; one daughter, Debbie Lyons; six grandchildren, Richard Scott Lyons, Melody Haynes, Jeremy Lyons, Joseph Lyons, Eric Carter, and Jessica Brainard; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William "Henry" Lyons, whom she married on March 6th, 1946 and who departed this life on August 12th, 2001; her parents, William Walker and Julia Ann Bland; one son, Ralph Paul Lyons, who died in infancy; six brothers, Willie Bland, Avert Bland, Albert Bland, Delrue Bland, Norman Bland, and Harry Bland; and two sisters, Versie Watson and Wilmerth Henderson.
Roxie was a charter member of the Ringgold Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She always took great pride in her children. She enjoyed sunny days on her porch swing and she also loved, and was very accomplished at quilting. She provided quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She devoted her entire life to providing for her husband and children. She worked very hard at canning food and working in the fields on the family farm. She was always the lighthouse for the family.
Visitations were held after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17th, 2013 at the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18th, 2013 in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. David Bullock officiating.
Burial followed in the Grays Chapel Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky.
