Susanna (q.v. Susan) Washburn, eldest dau. of Josiah Washburn, Sr. and Phebe Cushman, b. Jan. 12, 1790 at Randolph, VT. She d. in Jan. 1833 at or near Dwight Mission to the Cherokee Indians north of present-day Sallisaw, OK.

On Dec. 5, 1816 (not 1818 as often stated) at Brookfield, VT, Susanna m. (by Rev. Elijah Lyman) Rev. Alfred Finney, b. Mar. 27, 1790 purportedly at Plymouth, VT. He d. June 13, 1829 at or near Dwight Mission.

Rev. Cephas Washburn, Susanna's brother, Susanna and her husband Rev. Alfred Finney, and Susanna's 1st cousin (not sister as often claimed) Minerva Washburn and her husband James Orr, were the principal founders in 1820-21 of Dwight Mission in Cherokee lands that were part of the Arkansas Territory, near present-day Russellville, Arkansas. Following a treaty in 1828 between the Osage and Cherokee Indians, Dwight Mission moved to its present location. An extended itinerary of how this group arrived in Arkansas in 1820-21 will be summarized in the memorial of Susanna's husband.

Rev. Alfred Finney and Susanna Washburn had at least three known children b. at Dwight Mission, one returning to Vermont following her parent's death and interred at Randolph, VT.

In addition to being a missionary, Susanna (Washburn) Finney was a 1620 Mayflower descendant; her mother Phebe Cushman was a paternal descendant of Isaac Allerton and his 1st wife Mary Norris, who arrived at Plymouth, Mass. in late 1620.
