SMITHFIELD--Gale L. Brooks, age 77, of 18500 North Tarters Ferry Lane, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Prairie City Health Care Center in Prairie City. There will be no funeral services. Cremation rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prairie Health Care Center or Cass-Putnam Rescue Squad. He was born June 12, 1926 in Stover, Missouri to Milton Andrew Senoir and Nora Boyer Brooks. He married Audrey Edsal on July 18, 1954 in Ipava. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Larry (Margie) Brooks of Smithfield; two daughters, Janice (Tony) Birchfield of Cuba and Kathy Brooks of Smithfield, 5 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and one brother Milton Andrew Brooks, Junior of Reliance, Tennessee. One grandson preceded him in death. Brooks farmed in the Smithfield area for many years. He also owned and operated Brooks Spoon River Hunting Reserve. For several years he was a substitute driver for Cuba School district. Brooks was a member of the National Rifle Association.

In the 1930 US Census, he is living in Haw Creek, Morgan County, Missouri and lives on a farm with his parents. In the 1940 US Census, he graduated from the 6th grade and living in Harris, Fulton County, Illinois. He was working as an unpaid family worker.
