Boy Falls From Raft, Is Drowned In Canal
Funeral Services for Leo Miller Will Be Held Monday Morning-Victim Ten Years Old.
Funeral services for Leo Miller, 10, who was drowned in the Oswego canal near the Park street bridge yesterday afternoon, will be held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Miller, No. 1313 North Salina Street, at 9 o'clock Monday morning and at 9:15 o'clock at St. John the Baptist's church. Burial will be in Assumption cemetery. The body was removed to the morgue by Superintendent Lozott and later Coroner Crane gave John Gang & Son, undertakers, permission to take charge of the remains.
The boy had been playing on a raft in the canal with Anthony Hayes and fell into the water. he was unable to swim. Young Hayes attempted to save him but the boy grabbed him and both were nearly drowned. William Emm, who was two blocks away, was attracted to the scene and brought the Miller boy from the water. Several physicians were called and the pulmotor from the Syracuse Lighting company was obtained buy efforts to save the lad's life were futile.
Besides his parents, he leaves one brother and two sisters. He was a student at the Sacred Heart academy and was an alter boy at St. John the Baptist's church.
