Lois Matter, 69, of 11328 Lax Chapel Road, Kiel, passed away on Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at home.
She was born on Oct. 13, 1927 in Alliance, Neb., daughter of the late Rev. Elmer and Gertrude (Abel) Zanow.
She married Merlin Matter on July 9, 1950, at St. John's Lutheran Church in New Fane.
She was a graduate of Kewauskum High School and attended Valparaiso University, previously owned a floral shop near Kewauskum and worked for a time as a bookkeeper at Calumet Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton, the Ladies Aid organization and St. Martin Sewing Circle. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and crafting.
Lois is survived by her husband, Merlin; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Joy Pannier, Random Lake; Grace and Melvin Ebersold, York, S.C.; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Beatrice Scholz, Random Lake; Lorraine Vorpahl, Random Lake; and Ruth and Virtus Brockmann, Melbourne, Iowa; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dan Zanow; and two brothers-in-law, Martin Scholz and Clarence Vorpahl. Another brother-in-law, Victor Pannier, died later the same day of Lois' death.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 28, at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton, with the Rev. Wayne Huebner, officiating. Entombment will follow at Knollwood Mausoleum in Manitowoc. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Chilton from 5-9 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 27, and then at the church, on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
