Bernice C. Mayer, age 88, of Two Rivers, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay.
Bernice was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Joseph and Victoria (Powietrzynski) Alkonis. She graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1937.
On Aug. 10, 1946, she married Arthur Mayer at Sacred Heart Church, Two Rivers. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1981.
Bernice was employed at Metal Ware in the customer service department for 33 years prior to her retirement.
Survivors include one daughter: Patricia Mayer, Green Bay; one son and daughter-in-law: Robert and Juli Mayer, Two Rivers; six grandchildren: Andrea (Justin) Chupita; Michelle Mertens and special friend: Mark Zuleger; Steven (Anne) Mertens; Raychelle Eaton; Scott Rybicki, Todd (Lani) Rybicki; three great-grandchildren: Ashlyn Chupita, Vicky Miller, Reba Miller; one great-great-granddaughter: Zandra Miller; one sister: Mary Lutz, Manitowoc; one brother: Stanley Aldonis, Colo.; two sisters-in-law: Wilma Meyer and Marie Mayer, both of Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Sophie Glischinski and Antoinette Almeida.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O'Brien. Entombment will be at Knollwood Mausoleum.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Klein & Stangel Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Two Rivers, on Wednesday (TONIGHT), March 14, 2007, from 5 until 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 6:15 p.m. led by Father Bill. Visitation will continue on Thursday at St. Peter the Fisherman Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 am.
