Lasch, Gertrude

Gertrude Lasch, a life-long resident of Manitowoc, died Monday, March 11, 2013. Gert passed peacefully at the age of 92 after experiencing a rewarding life that revolved around family and friends. Whether Gert was raising her own family, coddling grandchildren and great grandchildren, or volunteering at church, her gentle, pleasant, and optimistic personality influenced everyone she met.

Gertrude was born in Denmark, on September 15, 1920 to Emil and Lena (Hensel) Johnsen. She worked at the Manitowoc Tinsel Factory with her best friend, Lucille Bubolz, before she married Milo H. Lasch on May 8, 1942. Milo preceded her in death on September 17, 2004. She was active in the Ladies Guild at First Reformed United Church of Christ. Throughout most of her life, Gert enjoyed her weekly bowling league, travels with her husband, vacations at the family cottage at Shawano Lake, gardening and canning, and weekly card games with her friends. For the last four years Gert resided at Laurel Grove Assisted Living, where she was an avid Bingo player and participated in craft sessions. She was known for her friendly and cooperative personality, as well as for the many miles she "jogged" through the halls with her walker each day.

Gert is survived by her two sons: Gary (Ellen) Lasch, Milwaukee; Glen (Betsy) Lasch, New Prague, MN; five grandchildren: Austin Lasch, Andy Lasch, Jennifer (Andy) Shepard, Sarah (Dan) Gullickson, Matthew Lasch; five great grandchildren: Emma, Avery and Mya Gullickson and Luke and Landon Shepard; one sister: Eleanor Hahlbeck, Milwaukee; one sister-in-law: Grace Quilan, Denmark; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Emil and Lena Johnsen; her husband: Milo Lasch; three brothers and three sisters.

A service to celebrate the life of Gert Lasch will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at the First Reformed United Church of Christ, 3613 Waldo Blvd. Manitowoc. The Rev. Richard Runge will officiate with burial at Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Church and the service will begin at 12:00 pm with lunch following. The Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the Lasch family with funeral arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.jensreinboldandpfeffer.com

The family of Gert Lasch would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the Laurel Grove staff for the care and compassion that they extended to Gert and also to the staff at Aurora Medical Center for treating Gert with dignity during her last days.
