George W. Nelson, 88, of 623 S. 30th Street, Manitowoc, died Thursday evening, August 14, 1986, at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Mr. Nelson was born September 2, 1897, in the Township of Eaton, Brown County, son of the late Lawrence and Anna (née Rieck) Nelson. He grew up and attended schools in the Township of Eaton. He farmed in the Town of Gibson and was employed as a plumber and sheet metal worker in Denmark, Wisconsin, moving to Manitowoc in 1937 and continuing in the sheet metal trade. Mr. Nelson owned and operated Nelson Heating Service which he be began in 1946 and continued until his retirement.
He married Alfrieda B. Bergelin on April 6, 1921, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Township of Gibson. Mr. Nelson was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alfrieda; a son and daughter-in-law, Norbert and Alice Nelson of Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nadine and George Webster of Marion, Illinois and Lorraine and Gary Schnitz of Chula Vista, California; a brother, Harvey Nelson of New Franken, Wisconsin; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Friends may call at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 11 am Monday to the time of services. There will be no Sunday evening visitation. Reinbold Pfeffer Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church or Bethany School. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Monday at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, and entombment will be in Knollwood Mausoleum, Town of Kossuth.
