SHIRLEY C. PARISH

Shirley C. Parish, age 90, formerly of Manitowoc, died Sunday evening, April 5, 1998, at Evergreen Retirement Community, Oshkosh.

She was born February 23, 1908, in the town of Pensaukee, Wisconsin, daughter of the late William F. and Joyce (née Whitcomb) Nichols.

Shirley married Dr. Ross W. Parish in Manitowoc on December 18, 1943. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1988.

Mrs. Parish attended Greenwood Grade School, Oconto High School, and Oshkosh Normal School. She taught intermediate grades for 14 years in Plymouth, Wisconsin, and for two years in Manitowoc. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Manitowoc. At church, she directed the junior choir, sang in the senior choir, and taught intermediate Sunday School. Shirley was also active in the church women's group. She belonged to the Monday Music Club, serving as President for two years; a member of the Wisconsin Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons Auxiliary, serving as Treasurer, President-elect, President, and immediate Past President. Shirley was the Secretary and Treasurer for the Fox River Valley District Osteopathic Auxiliary; Alumni Association of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh; charter member of Park Lawn Volunteers; Manitowoc Women's Club and Auxiliary of Commandery #45 of the Masonic Lodge.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ross Steven and Nancy Parish, Jerome, Idaho; one brother-in-law, Edward Monson, Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, three sisters, and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at the Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, with entombment to take place at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, town of Kossuth. Memorials may be made to the Evergreen Care Assurance Fund, c/o Evergreen Retirement Community, 1130 North Westfield, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, 54901; or to St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Manitowoc.
