Edward Pilgram [sic Pilgrim], age 93, of Kewaunee, formerly of E2736 Church Rd, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2004, at Kewaunee Care Center.
He was born August 21, 1910 in West Kewaunee to the late John and Anna (Propp) Pilgram [sic Pilgrim].
Edward married Erna Belter on November 13, 1946 and she preceded him in death March 6, 2002. They farmed in the Town of West Kewaunee until retiring from active farming about 20 years ago. Having a large woods, he then made firewood for sale and also logs and fence posts.
Ed did not have an easy life as a young man. His dad had purchased the farm a few years before the 1930s depression when there was no work to be had except to work for other farmer for a dollar a day to help his dad save the farm. Ed was a very conservative person. With the help of his neighbor, the late Joseph Krajnik, he put up a 24 x 40 combination garage and workshop using all of Ed's own lumber. Despite the hardships of his younger days he did not forget to help those who needed it. He supported several Veterans Hospitals, Salvation Army and the Red Cross. He was a member of Senior Citizens Organizations and other charitable groups. Was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Congregation all his life. Ed served 2 terms on the church council. Ed was asked what attributed to his long life. He said "being potato lovers. My wife and I had potatoes and fried onions for one meal everyday. But more important then that, we never used alcohol and drugs, believe in God and Country and do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
