Charles M. "Sonny" Hamilton, 82, of Ford City, died Monday, March 18, 2013, in the Armstrong County Health Center, Kittanning.

He was born November 20, 1930, a son of the late Charles H. and Grace (Beckett) Hamilton.

Sonny graduated from Freeport High School, and attended the First Baptist Church of Ford City.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who proudly served from 1952 to 1956. Sonny was a landing craft engineer and also was assigned to damage control aboard the ship U.S.S. Deuel. His home base was Norfolk, Virginia, and he was a 3rd class prior to discharge.

Mr. Hamilton retired from Penn Dixie, after 34 years of service, and also worked for 5 Rubber for six years. He was a member of the Kittanning Elks, Ford City V.F.W., Ford City Eagles, and the Latin American Club, Ford City. Sonny enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and being with his family and friends.

Mr. Hamilton is survived by his wife, Annabelle; a daughter, Debra (Denny) Valyo; and brothers, Ken (Quineth) Hamilton of California, Fred (Nadine) Hamilton of California, and Art (Ginger) Hamilton of Arizona.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two grandchildren, Jason Charles and Heather Ann Valyo; and a sister, Ruth Gaiser.

Friends will be welcomed from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, in the WELCH FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Fourth Avenue, Ford City. Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, March 21, 2013, in the First Baptist Church of Ford City, with Pastor Robert French, officiating. Additional visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Interment in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, East Franklin Township, with military honors provided by Armstrong County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 2230 Center Avenue, Ford City, PA 16226, or Orphans of the Storm, 11878 State Route 83, Kittanning, PA 16201.
