Michael Mintz was a Yiddish theatrical owner and publisher of the Jewish Daily Herald. He was the husband of Keni Lipzin who was a prominent prima donna in the Yiddish Theater. Mintz was regularly at odds with the Yiddish Actor's Unions and tried to break them. His disdain led to him committing suicide in the Lipzin Theater in the Bowery the afternoon prior to his wife's performance there. After having lunch in the theater which was his custom he claimed to go and check the lighting. A shot was heard and they found Mintz had shot himself in the temple on the watchman's couch. Mintz came from Russia in 1881. The Jewish Daily Herald which Mintz owned became The Warheit. He lost control of the newspaper as it was just making money. He brought the legendary yiddish actress Kaminsky to America which turned out to be a failure and put him in great debt. He was 54 years old when he died and lived with his wife at 1433 Madison Avenue in Manhattan.
