Funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Village Chapel for George Edsel "No Knees" Pope, Sr., 65, Gadsden, who died Friday, September 14, 2001. The Rev. Albert Morgan will officiate. Burial in Forrest cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home, Alabama City, is in charge.
Mr. Pope was retired from Gulf States Steel. He was awarded the Man of Steel Award. He was a member of Forrest Avenue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Pope and parents, George Pope and Veo Pope.
He is survived by his sons, George Edsel "Eddie" Pope, Jr., Terry Bryan (Stephanie) Pope, Gadsden; grandchildren, Wendi Pope, Cedar Bluff, Dakota and Brody Pope, Gadsden; fiancé, Roberta Thomas, Gadsden; brothers, Frank (Alice) Pope, Jim (Betsy) Pope, Doug (Sula) Pope, all of Gadsden; sisters, Mildred (Vinson) Butts, Gadsden, Louise (Joe) Awbrey, Leesburg and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of special friends
Pallbearers will be Howard Heath, Charles Massey, Benny Self, Charles Dollar, Randy Schomburg, Kenneth Maness, Randy Vise and James Gladden. Special thanks to the ICU unit of University Hospital in Birmingham.
