ALBERT ROHRBACH

Mr. Albert Rohrbach, age 91, formerly of 1460 North 10th Street in Manitowoc and currently a resident of Rivers Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center here, died early Thursday morning 2 August 2001, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.

Albert was born on 19 November 1909 in Manitowoc County, son of the late Albert and Emma (née Specht) Rohrbach.

Albert received his grade school education in the rural schools of Manitowoc County and graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1928. He completed a course in railroad traffic at the Federal Railway Institute of Milwaukee in 1930. He then worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Milwaukee until he returned home to assist his father on the home farm.

On 25 February 1939 Albert was married to Ruth Mae Stauss at Milwaukee. The couple made their home in the town of Manitowoc and, with his brother, took over the home farm in 1944 after the death of their father, until moving to the city of Manitowoc in 1970. Albert was also employed as a supervisor at the Metal Ware Corp. in Two Rivers.

Albert was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Manitowoc. He was raised a Master Mason in the Manitowoc Lodge No. 65, F. & A.M. on 1 October 1947, Exalted a Royal Arch Mason in the Manitowoc Chapter No. 16, R.A.M. on 29 October 1947, created a Select Master in the Manitowoc Council No. 18, R. & S.M. on 1 April 1948. Albert was knighted in the Manitowoc Commandery No. 45, K.T. on 9 December 1948. He was elected Grand Captain of the Guard of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of Wisconsin in 1958 and had been regularly advanced to the office of Grand Commander in 1964. He received the Scottish Rite degrees in the Valley of Milwaukee on 8 November 1952. He was initiated a Noble of Tripole Temple of Milwaukee on 24 November 1956 and since transferred to the Beja Temple of Green Bay in 1992. Declared a Knight York Cross of Honour in La Crosse on 2 September 1959, at the annual Conclave of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of Wisconsin. Albert was elected Right Eminent Grand Commander. He served at the head of the four York Rite Bodies of Masonry in Manitowoc and was honored by being declared a Knight of the York Cross of Honour. He received a Commission as Grand Representative of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of the State of Illinois near the Grand Council of Wisconsin on 23 May 1959 and again received the same Commission on 6 March 1963. Earlier, on 23 March 1961, he had received the Honor Legion of Honor Degree, Order of DeMolay, Member of the Manitowoc Chapter No. 196, Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Patron in 1951 and 1954. In March of 1985 he was received into the Order of the Red Cross of Constantine, Nicolet Conclave of Green Bay. Member of The Simon of Cyrene Tabernacle No. 10 of Oshkosh, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests. Honorary member of the Grand Commanderies of Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota.

Survivors include two nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth on 4 February 1999; her brothers, Ruben, Harold and Victor and one sister Dorothy.

Funeral services will be held at The Knollwood Mausoleum Chapel with entombment to follow in the mausoleum. Masonic Rites will follow the funeral services with Past Worshipful master Kenneth Beck officiating. Memorials would be appreciated for the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children, Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is serving the family.
