Lowville - Dorothy May Arthur, 81, of 7683 Park Avenue, died on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at the Lewis County General Hospital Miss Arthur was born on February 17th, 1922, a daughter of LeRoy V. and Corinne Arthur in Canandaigua, NY. She graduated from Lowville Academy in 1939, received
a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from SUNY College at Cortland in 1944, and received a Master's of Education degree from St. Lawrence University in 1952. Over the years she also did post graduate work at Syracuse University. As a dedicated educator, Miss Arthur taught at Potsdam High School, Lowville Academy, and Chittenango Central School, retiring from the Carthage Central School system in 1977 as a guidance counselor. Miss Arthur was an Elder and member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lowville. As an active member of her community, she held life memberships with the NY State Retired Teacher's Assoc, the Constable Hall Assoc, and Alumni and Friends of Lowville Academy. She served on the board and was a life member of the ZenithCopenhagen Chapter #346 OES. She was also a member of the first Hospice Volunteer training class in Lewis Co, a member of the former Lowville Civic Club, the Lewis Co General Hospital Auxiliary, Lowville Senior Citizens, Lewis Co Cooperative Extension, the Cariowden Country Club, the Lewis Co Humane Society, and she served on the Board of the Lowville Rural Cemetery Assoc. Surviving Miss Arthur is a first cousin, and several other cousins.
