Bennett O. Anderson, age 94, of Whitehall, died on Monday, March 28, 2005, in the Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall.

Bennett was born on Aug. 25, 1910, in rural Whitehall to Gabriel and Julia (Nelson) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Independence Lutheran Church. Bennett graduated from the Sunny Slope Grade School and the Whitehall Memorial High School. Bennett married Clara H. Davidson on Sept. 3, 1931. Clara preceded Bennett in death on Nov. 15, 1953. He later married Norma G. Foss on Aug. 26, 1961, in Whitehall.

Bennett farmed in Irvin Coulee until 1972 when he moved to Whitehall.

For 22 years, Bennett served as Trempealeau County Treasurer, being elected in 1956. He served on the Irvin Coulee school board and the church council at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Bennett also was a member of the Trempealeau County Republican Party and Farmer’s Union.

Bennett is survived by his wife, Norma; one son, Grant (Betty) Anderson of Pueblo, Colo.; two daughters, Dena (Gerald) Schleifer-Landry of Mindoro and Nancy (Harland) Thorson of Onalaska; six grandchildren, Debra (Ron) Hanson, Dawn (Dale) Schaub, Beth (Glenn) Streeton, Brian Thorson, Michael (Tammy) Thorson and Troy (Alicia) Thorson; nine stepchildren, Duane (Theodora) Foss of Whitehall, David (Priscilla) Foss of Galesville, Robert (Sharon) Foss of San Antonio, Texas, Spencer Foss of Riverside, Calif., Ernest (Rosie) Foss of Black Hawk, S.D., Rosalie (Don) Sorenson of Rice Lake, Linda Henderson of St. Louis, Mo., Delores Wynne of Central Point, Ore., and Lois (Jack) Fitzgerald of St. Charles, Mo.; 18 step grandchildren; and 20 step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward and Goodwin Anderson both of Whitehall; a sister, Irene Berg of Whitehall; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Bennett was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Mae; two sisters, Carrie Hegge and Carrie Anderson; a brother, Norman; a son-in-law, Ellsworth Schleifer; three sisters-in-law, Norma Anderson, Mavis Anderson and Daisy Davidson; two brothers-in-law, Nels Hegge and Alfred Berg.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 1, 2005, at 1 p.m. in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastor Lowell Bolstad will officiate.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 31, 2005, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
