David Arthur Silfvast "Fly Home" On a bright warm sunny day, David Arthur Silfvast returned home to his Heavenly Father on October 28, 2008, due to a tragic airplane accident. He was born September 1, 1946, to Arthur K. and Elvera Yancey Silfvast in SLC, Utah. He was married to DeLores Steele Silfvast, April 13, 1973-1994. Dave adored his children, Delena, Dustin and Shellie and his three beautiful grandchildren, Kameron, Kourtney and Kaden. He was the best daddy, brother, uncle and grandpa that ever lived. He had one of the kindest souls and was loved by many. His nieces and nephews were all very special to him: Diana, Bobby, Becky, Tim, Bonnie, Tom, Ben, Kristie, Konnie, Donovan, Reagan, Shayne, Rondi and Kari. Dave whole-heartedly believed in the gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed to the Prophet Joseph Smith. He loved his Heavenly Father and had great faith. Dave worked many years at Hill Air Force Base and for UTA. After his retirement from HAFB, he was able to do the things he enjoyed most. Dave truly lived life to the fullest. He had many hobbies and interests and knew how to play and have fun. He was one of the lucky ones who was able to live out his greatest passions in life which was being a pilot and flying the airplane that he handcrafted himself, a Starduster Too. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and loved the life-long friends he made there, as well as his buddies at Airport #2. Dave was a masterful craftsman and a skilled worker. He created beautiful stained-glass windows. He built and flew model airplanes. He enjoyed woodworking and anything that he could do with his hands. He was a professional ballroom dancer and a very successful amateur photographer winning many ribbons and awards. He flawlessly restored old vehicles. He was meticulous and ardent. He kept a beautiful yard. Most recently, he spent his time restoring old homes. He loved to cook. We will miss his Christmas candy, his famous whole-wheat bread and pancakes. We have many wonderful memories of this special man. Dave is survived by his three children: Delena Colledge of Draper; Dustin Silfvast of Taylorsville; Shellie Silfvast of Kearns and his beloved sister Linda Geertsen (Bob) of West Valley City. He is preceded in death by his mother and father. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008, 10 a.m. at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Friends are invited to come share with his family from 9-10 a.m. before services start. Interment at Valley View Memorial Cemetery, 4335 West 4100 South, SLC.
