Funeral services for John Marcus Barnes, 80, of Gainesville, are set for Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Barnes passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013, in Denton.

John was born on July 16, 1932, in Gainesville to Oliver and Johnnie Ruth Dresser Barnes.

John served in the United States Army during the Korean War and upon returning from the service, he ran the Marysville Store and then retired from National Supply after 30 years where he was a foreman in the welding shop. He loved hunting and fishing but most of all playing dominoes at the Stanford House. John also loved his family dearly.

John is survived by his wife, Lenora Barnes of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Calvin Mosley of Forestburg; son, Marc Barnes of Gainesvi daughter; Vickie Hess of Muenster and son and daughter-in-law; Sonny and Denise Barnes of Gainesville; stepdaughter, Susie Drummonds and her husband Ken; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Loretta Thompson of Thackerville, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Amos Thompson; and stepson, Harold Hughes.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Richey, Winnie Sherrill and John McGee.
