Mrs. Marion Mountain O'Brien, 79, of 33 Atlantic St. and formerly of 60 Pelham St., died at Newport Hospital yesterday afternoon after a long illness.
She was the widow of the late Jack O'Brien (1942). She came to Newport in 1938. While living in St. Mary's Parish, she was a member of its church choir for more than 30 years and also served as its organist.
Before coming to Newport, she had been organist at St. Benedict's Parish in Conimicut. Mrs. O'Brien was born in Manchester, N.H., March 17, 1896, and was the daughter of John and Eleanor MacDonald Mountain. Preceded by son John (1916) and Daughter Johanna (1945).
She leaves four sons, William E. O'Brien and James R O'Brien, both of Newport, Edward M. O'Brien of Middletown, and Francis J. O'Brien of Fairlee, Vt.; four daughters, Mrs. Arthur R. Crookcs, Mrs. Margaret Grinnell and Mrs. Anthony Vacchione, all of Newport, and Mrs. Henry Antoni of Portsmouth; 35 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Burial will be in St. Columba's Cemetery.
