DECATUR HERALD 7/11/1903

The remains of George Samuel Stabler, who died Tuesday morning at the hospital for the insane, arrived in Decatur Tuesday evening. He was 47 years old and death was due to softening of the brain. The remains will be taken to the home of his brother, John Stabler, 443 Crea street and the funeral will be held Thursday at 4 pm from the house. Interment will be in Greenwood.

Samuel as he was better known here was for 7 years a deputy sheriff of this county, serving under Sheriff Perl and Nicholson. He was an efficient officer and well liked by all who knew him.

Some years ago he moved to Ohio where his health broke down until his mind gave way and he was finally sent to the asylum. For several months past he ha been failing rapidly and his death was not unexpected.

I find no record of Mr. Stabler in the cemetery book or the sexton book but since his obit says he was buried in Greenwood and his parents are there I feel he is buried there.
