FRITZ J. SCHRAMM

Fritz J. Schramm, age 94, formerly of Two Rivers, currently a resident of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, died late on Thursday morning, April 17, 2008, at the home.

Fritz was born on June 5, 1913, in the town of Mishicot, son of the late Herman and Anna (Moeller) Schramm.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 1942 through October 1945. He took part in the Invasion of North Africa under General Patton. He also served in France with the 602nd Base Armament Maintenance Battalion. He was one of the oldest surviving World War II veterans.

On Sept. 21, 1946, he married the former Dorothy Kates at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. She preceded him in death on May 4, 2002. Fritz and his wife farmed in the town of Mishicot until moving to Two Rivers in 1948.

He was employed for 25 years at Eggers Industries as a machine operator, until retiring in 1976. He was a lifetime member of the Two Rivers VFW.

He was preceded in death by one son: Tim; six brothers: Bernard, Walter, William, Gustav, Louis and Herman Jr.; and three sisters: Caroline Kasten; Amanda Jorgenson; and Leona Schramm.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2008, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O'Brien. Military rites will be accorded by the Two Rivers VFW and American Legion immediately following Mass. Entombment will be held at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Klein & Stangel Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Two Rivers, on Sunday afternoon, April 20, 2008, from 2 until 4 p.m. Visitation will continue at church on Monday morning from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. The Klein & Stangel Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Two Rivers, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Shady Lane for their compassion and care given to Dad over these last years.
