HAMILTON - Aaron Travis Stidham, 82, Hamilton, died on Monday, October 15, 2001, at the Marion Regional Medical Center in Hamilton.
He was born on October 19, 1918, in Franklin County, the son of William Edward and Lillie Mays Stidham. During his youth, he lived in the Single Springs Community and attended the one-room Single Springs School.
He married Violet Pharr in 1935, and they had three children, Eugene, Shirley and David. While the children were young, he worked as a farmer and in a sawmill. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion for 40 years, the Masonic Lodge #344, and the Hamilton Bassmasters. He worked for many years with the Vulcan Life Insurance Company as an agent and manager and he retired earlier this year from the Walker Insurance Agency.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 18, 2001, at 2 p.m. from the Pilot Hill Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Lowell Baggett was the officiating minister. Pallbearers were Jerry Walker, Wayne Walker, Gaydrell Carter, Tony Comer, Dace Stidham and Wayne Hester.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years - Violet Pharr Stidham, Hamilton; three children - Eugene Stidham, Hamilton, Shirley Comer, Highland Park, IL. and David Stidham, Red Bay; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Hamilton Funeral Home directed the services.
