Clarence N. Greer was a native of Dayton and was born on April 29, 1870, a son of John E. and Martha (Newcom) Greer. John was born in New Carlisle, Ohio and served as a soldier of the Union during the Civil War. He came to Dayton in 1866 and established himself in the practice of law, remaining in this profession until his death. Clarence secured his first employment as Deputy Clerk in the Treasurer’s Office and from this position went to the Water Works Office where he remained for several years. He served as Secretary of the Safety Department and subsequently received the appointment as Tax Commissioner of Montgomery County, this being followed by his appointment to the position as head of the Taxation Department at the County Auditor’s office. Mr. Greer also served as Chairman of the Dayton Democratic Central Committee. He was married in March 1915 to Pearl Bachelor of Dayton. Two children were born to this union: William and Lucille.
