exact birth year not know, but according to the letter his father wrote in 1841 from Nashville, he was a minor age 19 and baptized in Washington, D. C. in 1825. He apparently got into some trouble and had joined the Army in New York and was subsequently discharged due to being a minor in 1841. He had been sent to Boston to school and then went to New York.
