Gilbert H. Sixel, 86, of 11704 S. Cleveland Road, Cleveland, passed away at his residence on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, after a brief illness. He was born June 23, 1914, in the town of Meeme on the Sixel Homestead Farms, son of the late Peter and Anna (Fiedler) Sixel. Gilbert attended the Taylor School in the town of Meeme.

Roma M. Olm and Gilbert H. Sixel were united in marriage on June 4, 1938 at St. Pauls Lutheran church in Sheboygan Falls the couple farmed the Sixel Homestead in the town of Meeme, and Gilbert was also employed at Kohler from 1955 until retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. James United Church of Christ in Spring Valley, where he served as church treasurer. Gilbert was also a member of the Board of Taylor School for many years.

Surviving Gilbert is his wife Roma; two sons, Peter (Patsy) of Newton and Gerald (Peggy) of rural Cleveland; a daughter Caroline (Harlan) Gaedtke of Manitowoc; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two step-greatgrandchildren and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Olm of Columbia, CN.

Gilbert was also preceded in death by a grandson Gerald Sixel; a great-grandson Brandon Henschel; two brothers: Herbert and Arthur; a sister Aurelia Truttschel and a brother-in-law Victor Olm.

A funeral service will be conducted for Gilbert on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at St. James United Church of Christ, Spring Valley. The Rev. William Kesting, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be held at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in the name of Gilbert H. Sixel.

The Zimmer Funeral Home of Howards Grove is serving the family.
