Alvin J. Hollis, oldest son of John S. and Bernice Hollis, was born near Greensburg, Indiana, September 13, 1859 and died at his home near Delphos, Kansas, August 9th*, 1925, aged 65 years 10 months and 26 days. He moved from Indiana with his parents to Iowa in 1866. From there they came to Delphos in 1870, where he has made his home on the farm ever since.

Alvin Hollis was the oldest of a family of twelve children, six of whom survive. The father and mother passed on within the past three years. Those who are left to mourn his death are the brothers and sisters, Mary C., John, Thomas, Mrs. Etna Brown, Mrs. Ola Hurtig, and Mrs. Bernice Hurtig, besides other relatives.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning, August 11th, at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.G. Roberts of the Methodist Church. Interment was in the Delphos Cemetery.
