Horace James Miller was born in Port Lavaca, Texas on October 2, 1920 to James L. and Cartie E. Jones Miller. He is preceded in death by his daughter Linda Jane Barker and his granddaughter, Jeannie Davenport Nabors.
Horace served his country during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Force. He was a machine gunner on a B-17 Bomber with the 358th Bomber Squadron. He made 35 missions in both the European and Pacific Theatres. When he returned he entered Westminster College in Tehuacana, Texas. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Education. Then he transferred to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas where he received a Masters in Science and Agriculture.
Horace was transferred to Livingston in 1959. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service until his retirement in 1979. He served in the community as a Boy Scout leader and Cub Scout Leader. He was also a member of the Lions Club. Horace also served as President of NARFE (National Association of Retired Employees) for many years.
Horace has served in several capacities at Central Baptist Church. He has been a member for over 50 years. He was ordained as a deacon in March of 1972. One of his joys was teaching the 5th grade boys. He taught that class for 23 years and saw many come to know the Lord. He was recently given the Deacon Emeritus award for his years of faithful service. He stressed the importance of teaching your children about the Lord. Horace was lovingly known as "Buster" by his family.
