Funeral services for Charles Ernest (Babe) Davis, Sr., 67 Albany, N.Y., former Urbana resident and newspaperman, will be at 8 a.m. Monday at McVeigh Funeral Home, Albany, N.Y. Burial will be in Albany.
Mr. Davis died at 10:30 a.m. Friday (Sept. 12, 1958) at Albany, N.Y. He had been ill for about two months.
Mr. Davis was born Feb. 14, 1891, at 1002 E. Main, Urbana, son of N.W. Davis and Maud Chamberlain Davis. He graduated from Urbana High School and attended the University of Illinois.
At one time he was employed for the old Champaign Gazette and the Courier. He later moved to Chicago where he was with the Chicago Daily News serving there for four years. He also was employed with the Chicago American.
He had served as managing editor for the Baltimore American, Baltimore Md., and until his illness was employed for the Albany Times Union, Albany, N.Y.
He was married to the former Inez E. White, October 28, 1911, at Urbana. She died in August 193(5). He later married Mrs. Mae Hyde, in September 1936.
Surviving his wife, two sons, Robert E. Davis, Falls Church, Va; and Charles E. Davis Jr., Los Angeles, Calif.; a step-daughter, Elayne Hyde, Albany, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Tipps, 1002 E. Main, Urbana, and Mrs. Grace O. Davis, Hendersonville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
