Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Vashti for A.W. Phagan, 58, who died at a Dallas hospital Thursday evening following an illness of several months. Mr. Phagan had been a resident of Clay county for 54 years, coming here in 1882 with his parents and the family from Ellis county. He had resided continuously on the same farm since that time.

He is survived by his wife and four children, Vernon Phagan, instructor in the extension division of the A & M college at Stillwater, Oklahoma; Carl, who is teaching in high school at San Angelo; John and Lola of Vashti; three brothers, J.G. and C.H. Phagan of Rockport; and two sisters, Mrs. W.W. Williams, Bowie, and Mrs. D.L. George of Mercedes.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J.S. Hughes, Methodist pastor at Vashti, and the Rev. W.J. Walker, lifelong friend and pastor of Cumberland Presbyterian church._
