Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley at 10 a.m. September 19 for John Van Olst, 65, retired baker, of Rock Valley, who died September 13 in The Netherlands where he had been vacationing.

Services were conducted by the Rev. G. Ten Clay and burial was in Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley.

Mr. and Mrs. Van Olst had gone to The Netherlands in June for an extended visit with relatives. They had been staying at the home of her sister, Mrs. Siegfried Huisink at Amersfoort.

Mr. Van Olst suffered a heart attack about four weeks ago at the Huisink home. He died in a hospital.

Mr. Van Olst was born in Oldebroek, The Netherlands, and later operated a bakery in Harderwyk, where he met and married Mrs. Van Olst.

The couple came to the U.S. in 1954 and he worked in the Brower Bakery at Sheldon.

In 1958 he bought an existing bakery in Rock Valley and operated it until three years ago when he retired. Two sons, Lambert of Rock Rapids and John of Hartley also are bakery operators.

The children went to The Netherlands when Mr. Van Olst became ill.
