Eugene R. "Gene" Steffen, age 59, of 1726 Cedar Court, Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning, May 1, 2007, at the Manitowoc County Health Care Center after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Eugene was born on Aug. 29, 1947, in the town of Charlestown, Calumet County, son of Arthur and Alma Woelfel Steffen. He attended and graduated from St. Gregory's Catholic Grade School and St. Gregory's High School with the class of 1965. He attended the former Manitowoc Vocational School and Milwaukee Technical, graduating in 1969. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force.
After his service, he was employed at the Tupperware Company in Kissimmee, Fla., the Hamilton Company in Two Rivers, and Vollrath Company in Sheboygan until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sister: Donna Steffen; and his mother-in-law: Joyce Carle.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Knollwood Mausoleum Chapel, 1500 Highway 310, Manitowoc. The Rev. Janis Best and Deacon Jim Steffen, will officiate with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the Steffen family.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay; Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc; Aurora Medical Centers in Two Rivers and Green Bay; Dr. (private) and the Manitowoc County Health Care Center, for the wonderful care Eugene received.
