Funeral services were held November 21 at the Crystal Cathedral for Dr. Walter Jesse Berger, 58, of North Tustin, who passes away November 18, 1982.

A resident of the Tustin area for 17 years, Dr. Berger was the head of Emergency Services at Orange County Medical Center from 1965 to 1969 and the initiator of the center's Trauma and Burn Units. He served as an advisor on the committee to institute Continuing Education for Family Medical Practitioners and was a member of the American, California, and Orange County Medical Associations. He was a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of International College of Surgeons, Fellow of American Occupational Medical Association and Founder Member of the American Society of Emergency Physicians and the American Society of Abdominal Surgeons.

Prior to coming to the Tustin area, Dr. Berger was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and a member of the Phi Rho Sigma Medical Fraternity. He was a Flight Surgeon in the U.S. Air Force and the first Air Force Flight Surgeon assigned to Korea. One of his duty stations was Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands, on assignment to Operation Hardtack. He retired from private practice in 1976, then practiced occupational health until September '82, as the Medical Director of the Department of Water and Power in Los Angeles.
