LINCOLN -- Charles B. Becherer Sr., 80, of Lincoln died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at 5:20 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln.

A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, Ill.

Mr. Becherer had owned and operated Becherer Jewelry Store in Lincoln since 1960.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He was born June 5, 1924, in Bristol, Tenn., to Francis X. and Florence Blackman Becherer. He married Carol White on Feb. 3, 1951, in Peoria.

Mr. Becherer is survived by his wife of 54 years; two sons, Charles B. Becherer Jr. and Robert E. Becherer, both of Lincoln; and one brother, Robert S. Becherer of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He was a member of Lincoln Elks Lodge 914 and a former member of the Railsplitter Antique Car Club and Jaycees.

He graduated from the Bradley School of Watchmaking at Bradley University in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
