He was born in Boston, MA, January 7, 1944, the son of the late Ralph P. and Elizabeth M. (Hope) Symmes Sr.
Ralph was a graduate of the University of Kentucky. He was veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U. S. Army.
Mr. Symmes was employed by the U. S. Department of Defense for 40 years. He was a life member of the Gettysburg Fire Department and enjoyed working on his Straban Township Farm for the last 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Ann (Grosenbach) Symmes; sons, Winston A. Symmes and wife Sigrid of Perry, Ga., and Jonathan G. Symmes and wife, Allison of Gettysburg; a brother, James H. Symmes of Saratoga Springs, NY and his four grandchildren, Derrik, Destiny, Chloey and Connor.
A Memorial Service will be held, March 28, 2013, at the Gettysburg Fire Department, Gettysburg, at noon with Rev. Louis Nyiri, officiating. The Family will receive friends following the service at a reception at the fire hall. Graveside services and burial will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg, at 11 a.m. the 28th.
