Former Kiel Resident Passes Away Feb. 1
John Lettenberger, father of Herman Lettenberger of this city, was called to rest last Wednesday night following a brief illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edward Auermiller at Manitowoc, where he had been residing.
The deceased was born in St. Nazianz in 1869, the son of Adolph and Elizabeth Sprang-Lettenberger.
In 1893 he was married to Miss Hermina Weinkoetz who preceded him in death in 1936. For several years they conducted a hotel in the building which now houses the Co-op Food store, Hayner Barber shop and Denny's tavern. They also operated a hotel in Valders before going to Manitowoc where they managed the Glenn Inn for a number of years. Following that he was employed by the Aluminum Goods Mfg. Co. in that city.
Survivors are his daughter, Mrs. Auermiller; four sons, Alphonse, Herbert and Norbert, all of Manitowoc, and Herman of this city; a brother, Dr. Joseph Lettenberger of Milwaukee; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the Sacred Heart Catholic church, with the Rev. L. M. Schorn officiating. Burial took place in the Calvary cemetery.
