Charles Keith McConnell - age 89 of Greenback departed this life Sunday, March 24, 2013. He was born June 18, 1923 in Blount County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma McConnell; daughter, Judy Jones; parents, Samuel and Mamie McConnell; brothers, Fred, James, Lewis, Joe and Robert McConnell; sisters, Ruth Bourne and Louise Shields. He was a member of Baker's Creek Presbyterian Church. He was a lifetime farmer and retired from ALCOA. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the European Theatre, participating in the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach. Charles was a fifty year mason belonging to Unitia Blue Lodge, the Knoxville Scottish Rite, and was a Shriner. He owned and operated school buses for over forty years in Blount County. He also served as Justice of the Peace and Squire for Blount County.
Survivors include his sons, Lewis, Donald, and Billy McConnell; grandchildren, Chris McConnell, Jennifer Pittman, Jason Jones and Charles McConnell; great-grandchildren, Bralyn, Jordan; sisters, Sue Thornton and Martha McCollum; caregiver, Angela Ledbetter; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Stinnett officiating. The interment will follow in Baker's Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 2:00 P.M. at McCammon-Ammons-Click funeral home. 982-6812.
