Mrs. Betty J. Valentine, 53, died Tuesday, August 30, 1988, at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Betty was born April 27, 1935, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Arnold and Elva (née Gerlach) Mahnke.

She was educated in Manitowoc Public School System and graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1953. Mrs. Valentine then received her teaching certificate from Manitowoc Teacher's College in 1955. In 1962 she received her Bachelor's Degree from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and in 1966 her Master's Degree from Silver Lake College. After graduation from Silver Lake College she was an elementary school teacher at various schools in Manitowoc County. Currently she was a 2nd grade school teacher C.C. Case Elementary School, Two Rivers. Mrs. Valentine was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.

Survivors include a son, Ben A. Valentine of Manitowoc; three sisters, Shirley (Carroll) Martin of New Mexico, Marilyn (Elmer) Hardrath of Manitowoc and Sandra (James) Johnson of Manitowoc; two brothers, Lee (Gail) Mahnke and Richard (Charlotte) Mahnke, both of Manitowoc, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends survive.

Memorials may be made to First German Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be 11 am Friday at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church with entombment at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Town of Kossuth.
