John Aird Funeral Services Held Monday

John Aird, who passed away suddenly at his home in Winnetoon Thursday night of last week, July 30, was laid to rest in the Plainview East cemetery, Monday, August 3, following services at the Center Congregational church with the Rev. Robert Bond officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Aird had recently purchased the James Kocina property at Winneton and they had moved in from their farm near Center, Thursday. He died the same day, following a stroke.

John A. Aird was born at Flat Rock, Mich. Feb. 13, 1876. He moved to Iowa with his parents, John and Mary Aird in September 1877 and received his education in the rural schools. He followed the occupation of farming and moved to Plainview in 1900, remaining there for three years.

On Feb. 21, 1906 he was united in marriage to Zoe Peed of Plainview and at that time they moved to their farm northwest of Center, where they resided for 41 years, until moving to Winnetoon.

In his early youth he became a member of the First Presbyterian church at Le Mars, Iowa.

Mr. Aird was interested in community affairs. He served as a member of the county board of supervisors for six years. During the war he volunteered his service as chairman of the Knox county rationing board. He also served for over 30 years as director of his local school board and as precinct assessor of Spade township in which his farm was located.

Besides his widow, Zoe Aird, he leaves to mourn his passing, two sisters. Mrs. Jennie Houston of Plainview and Mrs. Mary Miller of Le Mars, Ia. and two brothers, Wm. M. Aird of Charles City, Ia. and Walter C. Aird of Le Mars, Ia.; several nieces and nephews, including Earl Ellingston, who made his home with them from early childhood.
