Johnston was living in Choctaw Co., OK when he entered the service on Sept. 19, 1950 and was a member of the 39th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division.

He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on April 24, 1953 and died of those wounds on April 26, 1953.

Corporal Tillman was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Cpl. Johnston C. Tillman, 21, died of wounds received in action in Korea, April 26, his wife, the former Miss Joyce Gray here, was notified Thursday.

She previously had received a War Department message that he had been seriously wounded by artillery fire, April 24.

He was the son of Mrs. Gladys Tillman of Memphis, Tenn.

Due to receive his army discharge in about three months after three years of service, he was in Korea for the second time. He and the former Miss Gray were married last June 16, in Paris, Tex., while he was at home after 16 months of overseas duty. He returned to Korea last December.
