Corporal Begley was a Mexican Border and World War I veteran. He was awarded the Mexican Border Service medal for his service with Company L, 7th Infantry Regiment of the Illionis National Guard, and the World War I Victory medal with Somme Offensive, Meuse-Argonne and Defensive Sector clasps while serving in the 33rd Division. After returning from France, Mr. Begley joined the Chicago Police Department as a Patrol Officer and served there until he retired.
