Arthur Thomas Grasso

Arthur Thomas Grasso, 24, son of Mrs. Florence Grasso of 504 Carroll ave., Takoma Park, Md., died Friday in Memphis, Tenn., of injuries suffered when an electric light pole on which he was working crashed to the ground.

A native of the District, Mr. Grasso had been an employe of the Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division, since his discharge from the Navy in September, 1948. An aviation machinist mate first class when he was discharged, Mr. Grasso had served in the Navy since Sept. 13, 1942.

He attended the Takoma-Silver Spring Junior High School prior to his Navy service.

According to a member of his family, Mr. Grasso was moving electric wires from a light pole which was to be removed to make way for a new highway into Memphis, when the pole broke below ground.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, of Memphis, whom he married four months ago; six sisters, Miss Gloria Grasso, Miss Clorinda Grasso, Miss Betty Grasso, Mrs. Emelia Shannon, all of the Carroll ave. address; Mrs. Violet Sykes, 10106 Georgia ave., Silver Spring, Md., and Mrs. Flora Miller, 9721 Sligo Creek Pkwy, Silver Spring; and three brothers, Frederick Grasso, Anthony John Grasso, and Richard Grasso, all of the Carroll ave. address.

MLG&WD Lineman Fatally Injured

Pole Crashes, Worker Falls

Arthur T. Grasso, 24, of 2114 Court, a lineman with Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division, was fatally injured shortly after 11 a.m. today when a pole he was working on crashed. He was taken to Methodist Hospital in a J.W. Norris ambulance and pronounced dead on arrival.

L.R. Baker, a Norris ambulance driver, said men working in the same district with Grasso on East near Coward said he fell clear of the pole as it crashed.

MLGWD investigators reported that apparently the pole broke below the ground. They said Grasso had been up the same pole several days ago. Lines are being removed from this district in preparation for the new Iowa highway from the new bridge.

Grasso went to work for the division last September.
