Samuel was a Methodist minister and they were missionaries in China for 5 years. They had a son Kenneth who was born and died in China. In 1925, because of the political situation, they were forced to leave China, a month before their 5 year term was up. When the came back to the U.S.A. he ministered at different churches then he went to work at Adrian College and became its President for 15 years.
