Manuel Alexander DaSilva was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend that enjoyed good times and laughter. Manuel was born on October 12th, 1940 in Salao, Faial in the Azores Islands. He was raised with his grandmother in Espalhafatos, Faial. Growing up he worked on his family farm. As a young adult Manuel fell in love with Maria Conceicao DaSilva but at the time she was too young for marriage. While planning to leave to America Manuel was certain that Connie was the love of his life. He secretly asked her dad permission to wed. When saying good bye to Connie he asked for one kiss and she said no unaware of his serious plan with her father... So he left kissless in 1960, to move to America to pursue the American dream. After six months of being on the east coast he decided to settle roots in Elk Grove, California.

While pursuing his dreams in California, Manuel and Connie wrote each other love letters. He ventured back to Faial to marry the love of his life, Maria Conceicao DaSilva. They were wed on January 29th, 1966 and shortly thereafter he brought her to California to follow their dreams together.

A few years later Manuel and Connie had their first child, Lucia Maria DaSilva in 1968, with whom Manuel now joins in heaven. In 1971 they greeted their first son Alexander Manuel DaSilva.

Manuel's hard work and dedication paid off when their American dream became a reality by starting a dairy in Elk Grove. In 1974 they welcomed their second son Daniel Fernando DaSilva. Two years later their youngest son David Anthony DaSilva was greeted into the family.

And later he was also a proud grandfather of 6 grandchildren. He welcomed into the family Samantha, Xander, Sydney, Zackary, Delaney and Brody.

Manuel led a life full of love and appreciation. He was a proud American citizen but also was proud of his Portuguese heritage. He enjoyed being a part of the Portuguese communities. He was a dedicated member of the S.E.S. community. He helped endlessly during the construction of S.E.S.'s current site. Manuel then served The Holy Spirit and was the Festa President in 1979. He also served as Festa President for Isalino Santos Radio Program, Frank Dias Radio Program, and Our Lady of Fatima of St. Elizabeth's in Sacramento.

Manuel's laugh is something that will never be forgotten. He had a strong and warm sense of compassion which made friendships come easily. He sponsored many people to follow their own American dream and helped many with endeavors after they were here. He was a true friend to many people. He enjoyed Portuguese traditions and social gatherings such as mantacas, festas and card parties. Most of our memories with Manuel are of all of us playing cards, dancing the chamarita, gambling at a casino, and cutting a pig and stuffing linguica. His biggest pleasure was to gather family and friends in his home to eat and drink the food and wine that he so much enjoyed making.

Manuel lived a full life and was a friend to all and the presence of so many of you here today demonstrates that. He will forever remain in our hearts and will be loved by all that were lucky enough to touch his life.
