JAMES WARREN CARPENTER (called Warren) was born in Henry Co Georgia. His father Thomas was a farmer. His father (along with John Wilkins) put up bond in 1828 for 3 orphans: Sarah, David & John Harlen who won land in the lottery. Warren married the orphan Sarah in 1838. They had to take John Wilkins to court to get her land which they sold when they moved to Talladega Co AL in 1848. They sold that land and bought in Clay Co AL where they lived until their deaths. Although Sarah (Sally) lived to be almost 94 yrs old, Warren died at 44 yrs old. Sally raised their 9 children by herself for which she was well loved.

When Sally died in 1914, Warren & Sally had 266 descendants.

Their graves are at the original site of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church built 1843 in Lineville, AL which burned down in 1887. James's daughters Mary Ann, Emaly & Mathena, granddaughter Lucy Ponder, nephew Elijah Carpenter and Sally's mother Juda are also buried there. Unattended, the cemetery is overgrown and the stones in need of repair. The land was purchased by a descendant and passed down the family line to one who lives near Birmingham but is too ill to care for the graves.
