Calvin Schmeisser, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Schmeisser, drowned at Pigeon lake shortly after noon last Friday while attempting to swim from the dock to the floating raft, a distance of fifty feet from the shore, at the Mailman Resort. Calvin and his brother, Gordon, went into the lake together while a younger brother, Herbert, 10, sat on the bank. Gordon had almost reached the raft when he heard a cry for help and turned to see Calvin going down. He failed to reach in time to assist him however. Scouts sped to the scene with canoes and boats and the body was recovered and first aid and resuscitation methods applied. Chief Kuplic, Clarence Schmatz and Herman Larson rushed to the lake with the inhalator. Miss Gallagher, a registered nurse at the Girl Scout camp, Marie Stoelting, Marion Randolph and PhyllLs Trimburger, Girl Scouts, and Carl Rudolph and John Martin, Boy Scouts, worked over the body but in vain. The funeral was held Monday morning with services at St. Isidore's church at Osman. The parents and the two brothers survive him.
