The Oshkosh Northwestern Fri 1 Oct 1937 page four:
Stricken with a heart attack, Andrew Haben, 62, member of a prominent pioneer family of Oshkosh, and himself a resident of this city the greater part of his life, died at his home at Milwaukee at about 1:30 o'clock this morning. Until recent years he had always lived here, but following his marriage some seven or eight years ago, he had resided at Chicago and still later at Milwaukee.
Mr. Haben was born in Oshkosh Aug 28, 1875, the son of Andrew and Matilda Haben, his father being one of the leading merchant tailors in this city for many years and mayor during the years 1877-1878, and being elected a second time in 1885. His mother was formerly Miss Matilda N. McCourt, daughter of Peter McCourt, a pioneer resident, merchant and tailor and builder of McCourt's hall on lower Main street, the leading theater and amusement hall in Oshkosh prior to the "big fire" of 1875. She was a sister of Mrs. Horace A. W. Taber, wife of Senator (Silver Dollar) Taber of Denver, Colo.
The Haben family resided on Algoma boulevard, then Algoma street for many years and was prominently identified in the social and business affairs of Oshkosh, and was among what is commonly known as "the first families." The family owned a considerable amount of real estate in the business district of the city. The son devoted his interests largely to real estate, but also had some mining interests in the west at one time. He was owner of the property occupied by the Rex theater.
While living elsewhere, he returned to this city upon frequent occasions and his last visit here was but recently, at which time he appeared in the best of health, the announcement of his death coming today as a distinct shock to many friends in this city. He was a member of the Oshkosh lodge of Elks and continued that membership to the time of his death.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Alberta Haben; one brother, Leo Haben, Los Angeles, Calif.; and several cousins and nephews who reside in California.
The remains were to be brought to this city late this afternoon. Christian Science funeral services will be conducted at the Spikes & McDonald funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday afternoon and until the time of the services.
