The death of Rev. Benjamin Franklin Wood, which occurred at his home in Watertown occurred Tuesday. He retired Monday evening in as good of health as usual and was found dead in bed. He was in his 84th year and never lost interest in Lewis Co. He subscribed to this paper for over 50 years. Mr, Wood was born in the town of Ohio, Herkimer Co. N.Y. Aug 14 1832. He was licensed as a preacher in 1853. In 1861 he enlisted in the 81st NY Volunteers, and was made second lieutenant of Company C. After the battle of Fair Oaks, in the White Oaks swamp, he resigned, and in the fall of 1861 he returned to St. Johnsville. After that he was located at Middleville, Herkimer Co. three years; Port Leyden, Lewis county, three years Constableville, two years Blade River, Jefferson Co, three years; Theresa, one year. Mr. Wood was twice married. His first wife was Asenath Barnes, whom he married in 1853. Four children were born to this union. They were Dr. E. H. Wood, now of Salisbury Center, Herkimer county; Franklin H. Wood, Albany; Mrs. Bower Whitehead, of Brookings, S.D., and the late Assemblyman Gary H. Wood, of Antwerp. His, first wife died Jan 3, 1865, and on Oct 25, 1865, he was married to Jane Dorn, who died Aug 24, 1913. Four children were born of this union only one survives Mrs Charles Palmiter. Three children young, Howard, who died May 13, 1869; Lorrin W., Feb 2, 1876, and Durbin D., Dec 12, 1879. He is also survived by a brother, Elias W. Wood, and a sister, Mrs. Amanda Wolthers. The body will be taken to Port Leyden by auto-hearse, where interment will be made In the family plot In Port Leyden cemetery beside his second wife and their three small children
