Wallace C. (Snooks) Smith, 63, died Tuesday. A native of Cook(sic)Cocke County, Tenn., he was a son of the late Daniel Webster and Thuley Smith. He was a World War II Army veteran and a recipient of a Silver Star for bravery in action in France, a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church and an employee of Gray Mortuary for 33 years. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Brown Smith; a daughter, Townie Steadman of the home; sisters, Mrs. Tollise Paxton of Pelzer and Ellie Arms of Greenville; brothers, Lawton and Aubrey Smith of Pelzer and Charles Smith of Richmond, VA and two grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at West Pelzer Baptist Church; burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Gray Mortuary.

AWARD OF THE SILVER STAR MEDAL CITATION: Private first class Wallace C. Smith, army serial number 342427633, Medical Department, United States Army. For gallantry in action in Luxembourg on 18 January, 1945. He braved withering enemy machine gun and small arms fire to go to the aid of a seriously wounded man. He shielded the wounded man against the hostile fire with his own body, dressed his wounds and carried him 500 yards through the continuing fire to his vehicle. He then drove over a road known to be mined to the aid station. His gallant determination was responsible for saving the life of the wounded man and is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Medical Department. Entered the military service from South Carolina
